Palácio Nacional de Mafra

Built in the 18th century by King D. João V, the Palácio Nacional de Mafra is the most important Baroque monument in Portugal. National monument, part of the World Heritage List defined by UNESCO since 2019. In the reign of D. José I an important School of Sculpture was created here, under the direction of the Italian master Alessandro Giusti, as exemplified by the marble altarpieces of the Basilica.
It is possible to observe several and detailed works in stone existing in this great baroque work in Portugal.
